CHILD PSYCHOTHERAPY

Sometimes they can't cope with problems on their own.

By engaging, connecting, and encouraging self expression, I guide children in building on their strengths and developing effective tools for navigating life’s ups and downs.

Utilizing children’s natural form of communication – play therapy is a powerful way to help them express difficult feelings or conflicts that they often struggle to verbalize. Blending talk and play therapy, creative arts, and cognitive and behavioral therapy techniques allows me to gain insight into your child’s mind, help them better understand and accept themselves, and teach them to express themselves more directly rather than engage in negative behaviors.

Treatment issues may range from low self-esteem, social difficulties, and learning disabilities to anxiety, depression, and ADHD and ADD. I also have significant experience working with children of divorce and those who have adjustment difficulties resulting from loss or a traumatic event.

When appropriate, I collaborate with other professionals, including school administrators, teachers and tutors, to make sure your child receives all of the support and resources they need. I may also identify and refer skilled colleagues such as psychiatrists, occupational and speech therapists, and neuropsychologists.

Play therapy provides children with a natural outlet to explore and express their emotions and deal with unresolved issues in a safe way. Your child can learn new coping mechanisms, build confidence, and be more in control of their own feelings.

Partnering with Parents

My approach is child-centered within a family context, and parents are valued partners in this process. The parent/child therapist alliance and our ability to work well together is essential to increasing your child’s progress in treatment.
